I am a PhD researcher within the ReROOT project and will look into arrival infrastructuring that facilitates and conditions the arrival and mobile dwelling of refugees. More specifically, I aim to focus on the strategies that emerge when people have to navigate their pathways outside of formal and legalized channels.

I am a Master’s student in Social and Cultural Anthropology at KU Leuven, where I am conducting research on regimes of ecological modernization in Europe. For the ReROOT project I work in collaboration with MolenGeek to develop a visual identity, design communication strategies and attend to broader communication needs.

Professor of Social Anthropology and the Co-Investigator for ReROOT. Susanne Wessendorf completed her DPhil at the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS) at the University of Oxford. Since then, she has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity, held a Marie Curie Research Fellowship at the Institute for Resesarch into Superdiversity (IRiS) at the University of Birmingham, and was Associate Professorial Research Fellow at the London School of Economic’s International Inequalities Institute (III).

I am an Assistant Professor in Architecture and Urbanism related to Migration and Diversity, and a Project Partner in ReROOT. I am the leader of Work Package 5 ‘Mapping toolkits & platform prototypes’. My research concerns the intersection of migration and the city, with a particular focus on housing. I have a keen interest to impact society with my research, by regularly organising exhibitions, debates and workshops that reach a broad audience.

For my PhD in anthropology (Paris-Nanterre University), I have worked on the everyday life of undocumented migrants living in Paris area. During my post-doc I investigated the local politics developed by the city of Paris during the so-called “migration crisis” that started in 2015.

Kristen Biehl is an Assistant Professor at Sabancı University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and a researcher at Sabancı University Gender and Women’s Studies Center of Excellence (SU Gender). She holds a D.Phil in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Oxford. For the last 15 years she has been involved both academically and professionally in intensive research within the migration and asylum field in Turkey. Her research interests include ethnographically studying transformations of urban society and space through migration and diversification processes, examining the governing effects of migration and asylum policy frameworks, and more recently of comparing the gender awareness and approaches of civil society initiatives working in the migration and environmental fields. Kristen is Principal Investigator for the Re-ROOT project in Turkey and is co-leader of Work Package 2 on Site Research together with Susanne Wessendorf.
