A citizen collective (in concert with ReROOT Site Researcher Shila Anaraki) will transfer some of the furniture recently seized from Fedasil to asylum seekers who have occupied a building near Brussels North Station. This symbolic action highlights the Belgian government’s handling of the situation. Rather than providing proper accommodation, the government allows its own furniture to be seized and sold to pay fines for non-compliance with asylum seeker rights. The collective aims to create a “salon of shame” in the occupied building to draw attention to this issue.
